What should we do about it?
The biggest problem with the way we hold elections in America is their amazing complexity. Confusion prevents many people from participating, simply because they don't understand. In addition, the large role that states play in an election takes away from our power as individual voters. The best thing we can do is eliminate the states role and move to a national popular vote based on a system of instant-runoff voting. This gives every voter the same power and maintains the stability of our government by eliminating candidates with lower vote counts.

However, the only way to get there is still through participation in the voting process. The only thing that refusing to vote does is tell the politicians that you don't care about the voice you have. Speak up, vote for who you want to run your government and tell them how you want it run. Change is slow, but it starts with us.
